Brief history

The Department was established in 2000 as a unit for the differential diagnosis of lung and mediastinal diseases. Over the years, the department expanded its capabilities, becoming a fully-fledged general thoracic surgery department within the Thoracic Surgery Center.

Each year, more than 700 patients are examined and treated in the Department, and over 300 surgical interventions are performed on the chest organs. The department provides scheduled, specialized and high-tech medical care in the areas of thoracic surgery, pulmonology, oncology, and phthisiology.

The department has 25 inpatient beds and a day hospital. Patients are accommodated in comfortable 1-, 2-, and 3-bed rooms. The department was renovated in 2022.

An ambitious and professional team of thoracic surgeons performs a full range of chest surgical procedures, developing a minimally invasive approach to patient care. The operating room is equipped with video-assisted thoracoscopic and robotic technologies.

The Department's endoscopy service specialists have the most extensive experience in Russia performing diagnostic endobronchial procedures. The endoscopy room is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including EBUS-TBNA (endobronchial ultrasonography with transbronchial aspiration biopsy of lymph nodes and mediastinal masses), EUS-NA (endoscopic transesophageal ultrasonography with biopsy), confocal endomicroscopy (Cellvizio), cryobiopsy of lung tissue and mediastinal lymph nodes, and a medical laser for photodynamic therapy of intraluminal tumors of the trachea and bronchi. The full range of diagnostic endoscopic examinations is available to patients on an outpatient basis and under sedation.
