Main areas of treatment:

Department №5 is the only specialized orthopedic department in the country where complex problems of diagnosis and surgical treatment of the joints and related diseases are solved.

The priority areas of surgical activity of the department are:

  • restoration of joint or limb function lost due to injury, skeletal abnormalities, infectious lesions, degenerative-dystrophic diseases (including deforming arthrosis, aseptic necrosis), systemic diseases (including rheumatoid arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis), and oncological diseases (tumor-like diseases, benign tumors);
  • treatment of acute and chronic inflammatory lesions of bones and joints of various etiologies;
  • differential diagnosis of the musculoskeletal system diseases.

Within the framework of these areas the following is carried out:

  1. Functionally targeted, organ-preserving bone-plastic surgeries to restore bone and cartilage defects using autografts (taken from other parts of the patient's skeleton), artificial bone substitutes, and allografts (preserved bone tissue).
  2. Arthroscopic surgeries: diagnostic and debridement procedures, arthrolysis, cartilage grafting, removal of damaged meniscus fragments and intra-articular bodies.
  3. Axis and limb length correction using external transosseous fixation devices (ETF).
  4. Endoprosthetics of large joints (primary and revision), including those with severe post-destructive changes and skeletal deformities (we use implants from leading global manufacturers: Zimmer, Biomet, DePuy).
  5. Staged surgical treatment for infectious bone and joint lesions, including joint arthroplasty.

To improve these treatment methods, the department's staff conducts scientific research. The vast majority of surgeries performed by the department are high-tech medical care, funded by the Russian Ministry of Health. The department's staff members continually refine their skills, advancing their qualifications through certification courses and specialized thematic courses held in Russian and international clinics (Italy, Germany, Spain, and the UK).
